Hazardous Materials

Have odor or suspect a natural gas leak?  Is your carbon monoxide alarm sounding or you suspect a carbon monoxide leak?  Evacuate the area and immediately call 911!

Eagle River Fire Protection District provides response to a wide array of Hazardous Materials events including carbon monoxide, natural gas, propane, fuel spills and unknown odor investigations.  All operations personnel are required to possess an active Colorado Division of Fire Prevention & Control Hazardous Materials Operations Certification; many personnel have advanced training and have been certified Hazardous Materials Technician and qualified at Hazardous Materials Specialist levels.  All apparatus are equipped with monitoring equipment to detect Carbon Monoxide, Natural Gas (Methane), Gasoline vapors, Hydrogen Cyanide, Hydrogen Sulfide and Oxygen.  Each apparatus contains additional equipment to control fuel / oil leaks and clamps to stop a variety of natural gas line breaks.

Eagle River Fire Protection District is a member of the Regional Hazardous Materials Association of Eagle County (RHMAEC). RHMAEC is a multi-agency, collaborative partnership between Vail Fire & Emergency Services, Greater Eagle Fire District, Gypsum Fire Protection District, Eagle County Sheriff’s Office and Eagle River Fire Protection District.  RHMAEC maintains a hazardous materials response apparatus at the Edwards Fire Station #12.  This apparatus contains equipment for larger, more complex hazardous materials events such as tanker accidents, chemical spills, biological, radiological and unknown chemical incidents.
