As we are located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, a Firefighter with ERFPD is required to perform a variety of tasks to meet the unique needs of the local terrain. The following are some, but not all, of the tasks that firefighters are expected to respond to:

How to apply or a firefighter position
Entry Level Firefighter and Lateral Firefighter positions are accepted when ERFPD chooses to open a testing process. Notices of application periods will be announced on our website, social media sites, the National Testing Network and other affiliated sites.
To apply as either an Entry-Level or Lateral Firefighter,
applicants must possess the following:
- Current National Registry EMT-B or Colorado State EMT-B license
- Current IFSAC/Pro-Board Firefighter I Certification
- Current IFSAC/Pro-Board Hazardous Materials Operator Certification
- Class R Driver’s License or CDL (If out of state, must obtain Colorado DL within 30 days of hire)
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to Read/Speak English
- No alcohol related motor vehicle convictions in the last 7 years
- *Minimum 2 years as a paid firefighter required to apply as a Lateral Firefighter
Entry-Level Firefighter applicants will be required to complete the FireTEAM test as a part of their application process. This test must be completed through the National Testing Network. ERFPD may provide testing sites to complete the FireTEAM test, but applicants should plan to complete the test on their own. Scores can be submitted to ERFPD during designated testing windows.
Entry-Level and Lateral Firefighter Applicants must complete the Candidate Physical Aptitude Test as a part of their application process. Testing sites are nationwide, and certificates must be current at the time of application. Applicants can go about this by searching online for CPAT testing options or reach out to the following organizations:
- AIMS Community College
- Pikes Peak State College
- Denver Fire Department
Prior to the designated date and time, applicants must submit various documents as a part of their application. The documents submitted to the district during testing windows typically consist of the following:
- Completed application
- Resume
- Cover Letter
- Three letters of recommendation
- Copies of requested certifications
