About Us

The District’s primary purpose is to provide fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical, hazardous materials services, fire prevention and public education to its residents, businesses and visitors. ERFPD serves a resident population of approximately 25,000; this number increases exponentially during the summer and winter tourism seasons.

Message from Fire Chief Mick Woodworth,
Eagle River Fire Protection District

We are honored to serve the communities within the Eagle River Fire Protection District. Our mission is to protect life and property, a commitment upheld by our dedicated teams across the district.

The Eagle River Fire Protection District covers approximately 130 square miles, encompassing areas including Minturn, Eagle Vail, Avon, Beaver Creek, Edwards, Arrowhead, Wolcott, and Bellyache Ridge. We operate out of multiple strategically located fire stations to ensure rapid response times across our diverse landscape.

Our Teams & Departments:
Operations Team: This is the backbone of our emergency response. Our highly trained firefighters and paramedics are ready 24/7 to mitigate structural fires, medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, and technical rescues.

Fire Prevention Department: Focused on community safety through proactive measures, this department conducts inspections, reviews building plans, enforces fire codes, and provides education to minimize risk and prevent incidents before they occur.

Training Department: We prioritize continuous improvement through rigorous, job-specific training. This department ensures all personnel maintain the highest levels of proficiency, skill, and readiness to handle any emergency scenario effectively and safely.

Wildland Team & Eagle Valley Wildland (EVW): Recognizing our interface with the natural environment, we maintain specialized resources for wildland fire suppression. Our in-house Wildland Team works in close cooperation with Eagle Valley Wildland (EVW), a collaborative effort dedicated to preparedness, mitigation, and response strategies tailored to the unique fire risks of our mountain environment.

As Fire Chief for Eagle River Fire Protection District, I am committed to championing our four core values: Integrity, Professional Excellence, Respect, and Service. Please contact us at 970-748-9665
with any questions or concerns. Thank you for allowing us to serve you from a fire department that is committed to providing “Premier Fire Services in the Colorado Mountains.”
