About Us

Eagle Valley Wildland (EVW) is a division of the Eagle River Fire Protection District and also operates as an intergovernmental collaborative, coordinating wildland fire suppression, mitigation, and public outreach efforts across Eagle County.

Formed in August 2019 in response to Colorado’s fire history and the increasing wildfire risk within Eagle County, the EVW program has continued to grow and evolve. It currently employs eight full-time staff members and provides fire management services across approximately 1,680 square miles of wildland-urban interface (WUI), rural communities, forests, and rangeland.

To support this mission, EVW serves as a team of subject matter experts, coordinating pre-incident, incident, and post-incident activities among emergency response agencies, local communities, and the public throughout its jurisdiction. The team brings a diverse range of experience, including backgrounds in municipal fire service, Interagency Hotshot Crews, and Helitack operations. This depth of expertise offers a well-rounded perspective on the challenges facing today’s fire service, along with practical and effective solutions.
