As we are located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, a Firefighter with ERFPD is required to perform a variety of tasks to meet the unique needs of the local terrain. The following are some, but not all, of the tasks that firefighters are expected to respond to:

Certified Firefighter

As a Certified Firefighter, a candidate is applying with a baseline of credentials already obtained. The firefighter would enter into the department as a Firefighter Trainee until the completion of a modified fire academy process. Upon completion of the academy, the firefighter would move to the firefighter job description with the ability to be placed as a lateral firefighter based on the requirements listed in the Lateral Entry policy (attached).

Eagle River Fire Protection District Background Standard

Eligibility Requirements for Applicants:

To qualify for the position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Must be 18 years of age.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Colorado Class R Driver’s License or CDL
    (If out of state, must obtain Colorado DL
    within 30 days of hire)
  4. Valid Pro-Board Accredited Firefighter I or II certification.
    Preferred CDFC Firefighter I or II certification.
  5. Valid Pro-Board Accredited Hazmat Operations certification.
    Preferred CDFC Hazmat Operations certification.
  6. State of Colorado EMT-Basic or National Registry EMT-Basic certification.
  7. Ability to pass a background check, physical agility test (CPAT), and medical examination.

Required Documents for Firefighter Applications

When applying, applicants must submit the following:

  1. Completed application
  2. Resume
  3. Cover Letter
  4. Copies of requested certifications
  5. A copy of your training records from your current and/or previous department for length of employment, up to previous 2 years.
    For applicants with required certifications, but no fire department work experience, provide proof of fire academy completion.

Application Submission Instructions

Read all instructions very carefully before submitting anything to the district. Firefighter testing processes are very competitive and failure to follow instructions will result in an application being removed from the process. Interested candidates are invited to submit the following documents via email:

  1. A completed Eagle River Fire Protection District employment application.
  2. A current resume detailing relevant experience and certifications.
  3. Copies of all required certifications and licenses.
  4. A cover letter explaining your interest in the position and how your skills align with the District’s Statement of Purpose.
  5. Provide a copy of your training records from your current and/or previous department for length of employment, up to previous 2 years. For applicants with required certifications, but no fire department work experience, provide proof of fire academy completion.
  6. Submit all documents as a single PDF file.
    If unable to do this, please state this in your submission email.

Note: Please make sure to review the ERFPD Background Standard, Requirements to Apply, and Firefighter Job Description before submitting your application to ensure you are eligible. Incomplete or illegible applications will not be accepted.
