In addition to all frontline apparatus having wildland capabilities, each station also has a wildland specific apparatus for emergency response. Eagle River Fire also employees five Wildland Fire Operations Specialists (FOS) and one Fire Management Officer (FMO) who are highly qualified wildland firefighters in addition to one business support position.

Eagle Valley Wildland

Eagle River Fire is the host and coordinating agency for Eagle Valley Wildland (EVW). The Eagle Valley Wildland (EVW) is comprised of Eagle River Fire Protection District (ERFPD), Greater Eagle Fire Protection District (GEFPD), and Gypsum Fire Protection District (GFPD). Resulting from the recognition of Colorado’s fire history and the presence of a growing wildfire threat within Eagle County, the EVW program was formed in August 2019. The program has continued to evolve and currently employs eight full-time staff members dedicated to response, planning, mitigation, and community education. EVW manages fire management across 1,680 square miles of Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), rural communities, forests, and rangeland. To accomplish this, the program functions as a resource of subject matter experts to coordinate pre-, during, and post-incident activities between the emergency response agencies, communities, and members of the public across its jurisdiction.
